Chris
Chris is a biologist with the state’s Endangered and Nongame Species Program. She
works with coastal bird species and although she is supposed to remain
neutral, Piping Plovers are hands down her favorite. In her
free time, you will usually find her running, thinking about running, recovering
from runs, planning her runs or fueling up for runs. In between runs, she
really enjoys open water swimming in the ocean and bay. She likes races of all
sorts- 5ks to marathons, triathlons and aquathons. If there is a race clock and a
tee-shirt that won’t fit, she’ll be
there! She also really loves traveling
and CANNOT WAIT to go to New Zealand for the smoochymoon. She digs baking sweet stuff
and recommends that anyone wanting to eat wedding cake should be hasty about it
because she has been known to swipe other people’s slices at these shindigs.
Glen
Glen's love of birds began at an early age and is a core component of the man he is today. It is not unusual to have a conversation with him where he weaves into his colloquy the names of species he is seeing and hearing. Although birding takes up a fair amount of his gray matter, Glen has lots of other interests. He is an incredible cook (which is a godsend for Chris since before him she was eating things like cereal and Eggos for dinner) and a very intuitive and creative one at that. He plays guitar and sings, which makes Chris swoon. He indulges in video games and has recently begun an affair with his iPhone. Chris is wondering if polygamy will become legal, because she is pretty sure he is going to ask her if it can become a sister wife. He is a seasoned traveler, having spent plenty of time trotting across the globe. He looks forward to traveling more extensively in Central and South America with Chris and then coming home to the cats they will one day own.
How We Met
Chris spotted
Glen at the World Series of Birding brunch in May 2008. His team had won the
Cape Island Cup and as they accepted their award, Chris was captivated by his wild
hair and huge smile that lit up his whole face. She though to
herself “he looks so fun!”. She tried to track him down after the ceremony, but
to no avail. Fast forward to October of that year, 5 months later, when she was
at a “Thursday Night” potluck at Michael and Louise’s. She had been there for
a few hours and was getting ready to head home. Just as she slipped on her
jacket, Glen walked in, fresh off a boat trip! He was bundled up and now had
short hair and a full beard, but she knew that smile anywhere. Unsurprisingly, the jacket came back off and she made the
decision to stick around a little longer. She chatted him up and got his email
address, ostensibly to share some work-related information. After vetting him
through Louise (who confirmed he was both single and mostly sane) she emailed
him. Due to their work schedules, it was three weeks until their first date,
which gave them plenty of time to flirt behind the cover of their computers. Glen showed up at Chris’ door with chocolate
and a new outfit his female co-workers helped him pick out, both of which she
found instantly endearing. They went to a Mexican restaurant and the date
lasted ‘til dawn. Chris recalls that it
was one of those nights when she just knew her life was about to seismically
shift, and for the better. From that point forward they were inseparable,
leading them to another October night, 3 years later, where they will become husband and wife in the same small town that it all started.
